“By this everyone will know you are my disciples if you love one another.” John 13:35 (NIV)
I saw it in her eyes.
The sadness. The questions. The missing.
Her Mama died unexpectedly and she was hurting.
I know how that feels.
Maybe you do too?
Two years ago, I wrote a blog post called “Comfort Food” (www.tinasavantgibson.com/comfort-food) At that time, my Mama had only been in heaven for a couple months. No more cancer. No more pain. I should have been happy and I was, for about a minute. Then, the missing showed up. I had no idea at the time the healing that Jesus would bring. The unexpected comfort. The sweet memories. The Love.
Always the Love.
Love that I can share with another in the missing.
Love that I pray I can remember for myself.
Heart wounds take more time to heal. Do you eye roll when people say “time heals all wounds”? Me too. Yet, the truth is, it does. When our hearts are shattered and missing moves in, no ordinary surgeon will do. That’s why we have a Savior.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
Comforting another comforts us. During my deepest days of missing, God has always given me unexpected opportunities to love. Why am I so surprised? There’s something about comforting another human being that brings a beautiful soul connection.
“May your unfailing love be my comfort” Psalm 119:76(a)
Choose Love over lies. Sometimes the season of missing brings regrets of should’ve, could’ve, or why didn’t I. When those lies creep in, let’s crush them with our Heavenly Father’s love and ask Him to pour His peace over us.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Are you in a season of missing?
I understand, dear one.
And so does He.
Through this season…perhaps the hardest one you’ve ever been through…Jesus is carrying you. He is comforting your heart with His love.
Then, on a day you can’t see yet, you’ll find yourself in another’s missing season. And you’ll hold their hand, nod your head, and comfort them in love.
Comfort in the missing. From His heart to your heart. From your heart to their heart.
And back again to you. XO
Spread your joy,
