“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” Psalm 94:19 (NIV)
My Mama loved a comforter.
She had them everywhere. On the chair, seat and back. On the couch, both ends. On the bed, layered one on top of the other.
As I stood in the center of her living room and looked around, each brought a smile to my face and a memory to my heart.
Like the fuzzy burgundy one, given to her on her 80th birthday by a favorite niece. She wrapped it around her senior bones each night. It brought her rest.
Or, the multi-colored one, created with love by a dear friend who was also like a second daughter to her. It brought her joy.
Then, there was the bright orange flowered one. Only she knew where it came from, but it covered her legs whenever we enjoyed a Hallmark movie together. It brought her mother-daughter memories.
And, not to be left out, the thread-bare blue one, which had been around forever. Oh the stories it could tell. It brought her comfort.
Each one had a purpose.
Each one had a story.
And each one provided her comfort in a different way.
Like He does for us.
Our Hug…when we need one.
Our Warmth…when the world feels cold.
Our Friend…that sticks closer than a brother.
Our Comforter…when life seems to be coming apart at the seams.
Perhaps you need a Comforter today?
No matter what you are going through, He is there.
He is as close as your heart.
Even if you don’t see Him.
Even if you don’t feel Him.
He is there.
That’s a promise.
Won’t you wrap yourself in the Comfort of His Love right now?
Spread your joy,
