“Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NIV)
Recently, I stopped by one of my Mama’s favorite restaurants. This time, it was just me, myself, and I in the booth and quite frankly, I was feeling a little bit lonely.
The waitress, who knew Mama and also knows me, came by and gave me a hug. Then, she shared that she had recently lost her Mama too.
And we comforted one another.
Which made me wonder…why don’t I stop for comfort food more often?
No, not macaroni and cheese.
This comfort food is the best kind.
It never gets cold and there’s always an endless supply.
All I have to do is just take the time to stir it.
All I have to do is just take the time to share it.
Take the time.
And that’s the point.
I get so caught up in this meal called “life” that I fill my belly while yours is rumbling.
And I miss the blessing.
So, will you join me in a little challenge?
Ask God to bring someone to mind who could benefit from your comfort food.
Yes, that one.
Now, the hard part.
Will you let the pain—past or present—of your story bring nourishment to their soul?
In other words, will you share your meal?
Because it’s in the giving that we receive…
By the way, remember that comforting hug I received at the restaurant?
Well, afterwards, I looked across the booth to the empty seat again.
But I didn’t feel lonely anymore.
Instead, I heard these beautiful words in my soul:
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
And that was the best comfort food of all.
Spread your joy,
