“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
So…are you excited?
THERE’S AN ECLIPSE COMING, PEOPLE!
I was even going around the house singing that 80’s song “Total Eclipse of the Sun” until I realized it’s actually “Total Eclipse of the Heart”…
Nevertheless, an eclipse is on the way and there’s nothing we can do about it, although there was a time when I really wanted to. I was in grade school and the rumors were buzzing that an eclipse was coming along with the “end of the world”. Worry covered my little girl heart as I grabbed my JC Penney pocketbook and ran to the teacher, pleading for her to call my Mama to come and take me home!
It’s still talked about at my school reunions.
Unfortunately, that eclipse was only a sliver in the pie of worry that I’ve tasted for much of my life.
So, in “light” (pun intended) of the upcoming eclipse, why don’t we surrender our worries to some real truth talk?
Darkness is temporary. God is eternal. That eclipse all those years ago shadowed the sky, but it didn’t last forever. The same goes for the dark days in our lives. You know the ones. Worry slowly spreads across us like the night. Silence when we crave answers. Lingering when we pray for it to pass. But, hold on, dear one…hold on…Light is near.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)
What-if worries wither our souls. For many years, the word “eclipse” shook me to the bone. Even though I knew it was a temporary event, worry bubbled to the surface as I wondered “what-if”? Worry does that to a soul. Why is that? Perhaps it’s because we spend too much time looking around at the “what-if’s” instead of simply looking up.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:26-27 (NIV)
Live your life. Wear your faith. I’ve heard there are “eclipse sunglasses” that will allow you to look at the sun without damaging your eyes. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could wear something to block out our worries without damaging our hearts? Whoa. Wait a minute. We can. It’s called faith.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
Beloved, instead of spending so much time in the worry, let’s choose to live fully in the joy of our Father’s Love. It’s brighter than the sun and nothing…not even an eclipse…can block it from reaching us.
Now, that’s something to get excited about! XO
Spread your joy,
