I’m goin’ to Heaven…can’t wait!
Gonna see Jesus…can’t wait!
Heaven’s wonderful, bright and fair,
Praise the Lord I’m goin’ there!
I’ll be there forever…can’t wait!
Gonna leave never…can’t wait!
I’m goin’ to Heaven and I…..CAN’T…..WA—-AY—-AY—-ATE
We used to sing that song with great excitement in junior church, getting louder and louder until we shouted those last two words at the top of our little lungs.
But, of course you’re going to be excited about Heaven when you’re eight years old, right?
But how about when you’re 28 or 48 or 68?
Or your age?
Or my age?
What if we changed the lyrics to express how we really feel?
I’m goin’ to Heaven…but it can wait.
Not quite ready for that date.
Too much left down here to do.
So, Father, I’ll get back with you….
Maybe you’re smiling, but that’s sort of true, isn’t it? We can get so caught up in this life that we don’t really think much about Heaven.
In other words, Heaven can (absolutely, positively, take its time) wait.
Perhaps we lose our childlike wonder of God by allowing the grown-up circumstances of our lives to overshadow the Hope we have.
Instead, let’s tip toe away from the noise for a minute and remember.
Remember that Jesus endured a brutal and unimaginable death for you and for me.
Remember that Jesus conquered that death so that we could live forever with Him.
That’s Love, Friend.
And that really is something to shout about!
Spread your joy,
