“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
Anyone who knew my Grandpa B knew he was brave.
He was a farmer, but also worked at a stone quarry.
He wore bib overalls and smoked a pipe that smelled like love.
He was larger than life.
So, when I recently found an old letter that my Grandma B wrote to my Mama about his failing health, I wasn’t surprised to read these four words.
“…but he is brave.”
I love that word.
Even if I’m not always good at it.
But I wanna be.
I really do.
Perhaps you’re like me…just when you’re ready to embrace “brave”, the enemy shows up.
His name is Fear.
Fear is like that guy from high school that your Mama tells you to stay away from “for your own good”.
But he appears to be super cool and seems to have some really awesome friends like guilt, regret, judgment, control, imperfection…
And his BFF: “W”
Also known as Worry.
By the time you realize what kind of dude Fear is, it’s too late.
He’s taken over your life.
But there’s good news, friend.
Brave is on the way!
And, His name is Jesus.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Why do we spend so much time in the fear
That we forget the “perfect love”?
Beloved, that fear you’ve been carrying for far too long?
Let it go…
And lay it at the foot of the cross right now.
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Psalm 56:3-4 (NIV)
Dear one, Jesus is our Brave.
I wanna trust Him with all my heart.
I wanna replace every fear with His perfect love.
I wanna be brave like that.
Spread your joy,
