“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV)
I have way too many plastic containers
But, instead of donating or recycling, I keep ‘em in one specific cabinet in my kitchen.
(The one my husband will never open…)
I keep telling myself that “someday” I’ll do something with them; for now, I have another alternative:
You know, that clear sticky stuff that you attempt to pull off the roll, only to tear it while HALF OF IT STICKS TO YOUR FINGERS AND THE OTHER HALF IS WRAPPED TIGHTLY AROUND THE END OF THE ROLL!
So, why do we use it anyway?
Well, to cover the contents of something that we want to see.
Do we really desire to see something that we want to cover up?
Yes…when it’s leftover spaghetti.
But. Not. When. It’s. Our. Lives.
In that case, it’s just the opposite.
We tend to cover up the things that we don’t want another soul to see.
You know what I’m talking about, friend.
Do you have something in your past or present that you’d like to keep covered?
My hand is up.
We all do.
So in our desperation to hide it, we cover that “thing” with a layer (or two) of plastic wrap…
And pray with all our hearts that it sticks.
But, what happens when the edges of that plastic begin to unseal
And eventually, the contents are exposed for all the world to see?
How do we feel?
So, what if we look at it a different way.
What if we knew that by sharing our hurts and experiences
That we could help another person
Who may also be going through a similar thing?
Perhaps the true blessing isn’t in the hiding,
But in the seeing…in the sharing.
Who wants to go first? 🙂
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11a (NIV)
Oh dear one, what are you covering up today?
Is it a deep hurt that is buried beneath your plastic smile?
Is it the fear of living
Or the fear of dying?
Is there someone you need to forgive
Or something that you need to let go of for good?
Go ahead…peel back the plastic that’s been protecting and preserving that unspoken thing…
And expose its contents in honest words to your Heavenly Father.
He knows all about it anyway.
Your prayer of transparency can begin the healing in your heart…
The heart that He can see through the plastic.
The heart that He can set free.
The heart that He loves with all of His.
Spread your joy,
