“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ” Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
I reluctantly said yes.
When we arrived at the botanical garden, they gave us a fold-out map of the grounds and said that they were featuring “orchids”.
When I think of an orchid, I envision my sweet little Grandma with a purple flower proudly displayed on her Easter Sunday church dress.
So, when we entered the building and were greeted by incredible scents and a room full of colors, I was surprised.
They were all beautiful, but I was especially drawn to the yellow ones.
Upon closer inspection, I just let my imagination go.
They weren’t simply orchids.
They became tiny dancers, their scalloped yellow dresses flowing as they moved back and forth to the beat of the breeze!
Something happened when I took the time to stop.
My whole perspective changed.
Looking at them made me happy!
And for a few delightful moments, I didn’t think about my to-do list or my worries or the fact that I’m not 20 years old anymore.
I just absorbed God’s beauty.
And it felt awesome.
Now it’s your turn.
You don’t even need a botanical garden.
Just a willing heart.
Get up extra early to behold a sunrise.
Say a little prayer of gratefulness.
Then, look in the mirror
And listen to His whisper to your heart
You are beautiful…and amazing…and one of a kind.
And loved, dear one.
So, very loved.
Our Heavenly Father knew exactly what I needed that day in the garden.
And He provided the orchids.
All I had to do was “reluctantly” say yes.
Spread your joy,
