“Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)
I used to be afraid to pray out loud.
There…I said it.
Years ago, I had a Sunday School teacher who would “randomly” call on different members of the class to pray out loud. His eyes would scan the room like a lighthouse beacon. But I had a plan. I mean, would he really call on me if I already had my head bowed and my eyes closed?
You see, I was hoping he would think I was a prayer warrior instead of what I really was.
I had convinced myself that I was not worthy enough to pray out loud. I had convinced myself that everyone in that class was a Bible scholar or close to it. I had convinced myself that there was a right way to pray and a wrong way to pray and by golly, miss molly, there was no way I was going to be the latter.
I was more concerned about the pray-er than the prayer.
In other words, it was all about me.
But God knew this. And through His love, He gently changed me.
He gently changed the Pray-tender’s heart.
So, how about you?
Maybe you’ve never struggled with praying out loud like I did.
But perhaps you can relate to some of my other pray-er struggles:
…to pray for my “enemies”
…to pray with hope when I don’t see the end of the story
…to pray for those who don’t believe in Jesus
…to pray for those who do
…to pray when I don’t feel like it
…to pray to forgive…and forget
…to pray for His will, not mine, and the courage to accept it
…to pray without ceasing
I can’t tell you why God answers some of our prayers and not others. That’s where faith comes in and boy, it’s hard to grasp sometimes. But I do believe there is power in prayer because I’ve experienced it. And during those times when I feel dry in my prayer life, I cling to the answered prayers of the past.
Father God, thank you for loving us just the way we are. Thank you so much that we can communicate with you anytime and from anywhere. Please forgive us when we get so caught up in our circumstances that we forget about You. Help us to always pray for one another as well as ourselves. Remind us to always be grateful. You are Holy, Amazing, Wonderful, and Beautiful. You are Love. Amen.
How can I pray for you today, Friend? You can post a comment or send me an email and I’d be honored to pray for and with you!
Spread your joy,
