“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Can you see it?
That soft spot in my heart for young women?
Perhaps it’s because I’ve been one of them.
And in many ways, I still am.
I’ve seen their struggles and felt their pain.
Especially in their quest for Mr. Right.
Because at one time, I had a similar story.
I so want to steer them away from bad choices.
I want to protect their hearts.
Yet, sometimes the lesson is in the story.
We all have one.
And, that’s where we find out who He really is.
Not the boy.
So today, I’m speaking to my little sisters coming behind me.
I see you,
I see the pressures of your life.
Different than in “my day”…
Yet exactly the same.
As a young woman, I longed to be accepted, chosen, loved.
Just like you.
But sometimes, those desires blinded me to unpopular choices.
And, I wasn’t very good at waiting.
One of the worst words in my vocabulary.
Yet, one of the best words in my vocabulary.
If you’re in a relationship right now, picture his face.
Does your heart shout
“He’s the best!”
Or, does it whisper
“He’s the best that I’ll ever get…”
You see, sometimes our impatience leads us to another word.
The arch enemy of “Waiting”.
Think of it this way…
Ever open a bag of chips and find that it’s only half full
Because the chips have “settled” to the bottom?
But, instead of choosing another bag, you just keep ’em because, after all, you are positive
That they are ALL the same.
Or, maybe it’s more like this:
You muster the courage to discard ’em only to find that your family and friends are so thrilled that you are settling (well, not really, but they don’t know him like you do) that you just put on your happy face and hang on…
And on and on.
Now, you may be thinking “Is this the part where she throws a Bible verse at me?”
Why yes, thank you very much for asking!
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Please hear this, dear sweet one.
Our God knows something that we don’t.
Our whole life.
All of it.
From beginning to end.
He is the One who created us.
And, I know…oh man, do I know…
Waiting is hard.
But wrong choices are worse.
You were made for so much more, beautiful girl.
Will you give up the settle and rest in His plan instead?
Even if it means wait…
Especially if it means wait?
Will you trust the desires of your heart
To the best of His for you?
He loves you so much
And so do I.
Spread your joy,
