“The Lord does not look at the things that people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b (NIV)
I couldn’t help, but smile.
A little girl and her Mama were shopping for school supplies.
Little Girl: “Oh, I love thaaaaat! Can we get it?”
Mama: “No honey, it’s not on the list.”
Little Girl: “I know, but I still waaaaaant it!!!”
I want it.
I need it.
I gotta have it!
Oh yeah, I’ve been there.
The world says we have to have the latest this or the most awesome that.
That success. That bank account. That body. That friend. That neighborhood. That life.
We trust the words of celebrities, “experts”, fads, endless news cycles and Google.
Instead of the words of our Creator.
Now you might say “Tina, I don’t get wrapped up in all that superficial stuff. I am perfectly content in my world.”
Okay…then, let’s go a bit deeper.
Do you seek the opinions of your family and friends, before you seek the wisdom of your Heavenly Father?
I confess that sometimes I do.
Oh, not intentionally. It’s just that (so and so) is right here and God is far away and sometimes He takes longer than a minute and…and…and…
Now, I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t share your burdens with your loved ones.
I’m just reminding you…reminding myself…to share first with the One who loves you…loves us…the most.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 (NIV)
Dear one, sometimes God answers our prayers right away.
And exactly the way we want.
But, other times, He wants us to wait for His perfect timing.
And then, there’s that word. The one that prompts us cover our ears, close our eyes, and “la la la” until it goes away.
The dreaded N-O.
That’s the hardest part, isn’t it?
To go from waiting for Him
To resting in Him?
So, maybe we should be more intentional in our prayers…
Instead of praying for what we want,
Let’s pray for His Will in our lives.
Because deep down…way beyond our understanding
That’s what our soul really longs for,
What it really waaaaants.
Spread your joy,
